Kindergarten- Self-portraits

Kindergarteners created self portraits. We used mirrors for students to study their facial features and include them in their drawings. Aren't they cute?

1st Grade- Underwater Scenes

1st graders created underwater scenes. On day on we used pencil and traced our lines with sharpie. The second day, we used art sticks to color the water, sky, and sand. Then we colored in our animals with markers.

1st grade- Overlapping Winter Trees

1st graders discussed overlapping and created winter tree scenes. We made the trees out of construction paper and the snow with tempra paint and water mixed in a spray bottle.

Kindergarten- Winter Ladscapes

Kindergarteners learned about landscapes and created winter scenes. We tore white paper for the snow, drew on the trees with colored pencil. And created the pine trees by folding paper, cutting a diagonal line, and cutting triangles out of the edges. Lastly, students added extra details.

Kindergarten Snowflakes

Kindergarteners made snowflakes. They enjoyed using thier scissors with control and being able to distinguish the folded edge. It was amazing to see how surprised they were when they opened their snowflakes.

Poinsettia

1st grade made beautiful poinsettias by usiing red, green, white, and gold paint. We discussed that when you mix a color with white it is called a tint and that is what studnents did when they made the highlights on their paintings.

2nd grade Snowy Landscapes

2nd grade created winter landscapes by using tints in the background to create mountains. After the paint dried, we creted trees out of silhoettes. Finally, we added snow falling down in the foreground.

2nd Grade Cuckoo Clock

2nd grade created cuckoo clocks by using mixed media. On day one we drew the face of the clock and decorated our background paper by using stamping- a printmaking technique. On day two, we wove together paper to create the actual clock and added the top triangle shape and a fancy shape to the bottom. On  the third day, we created the door, the bird, and glued the clock face on. And there you have it!

3rd Grade Woven Pouches

This is a favorite lesson for almost all the students. Students created woven pouches with the help of a cardboard loom. We wove around the loom for the pouch and wove on the front side only for the flap that hangs down. Students then braided or simply added strings for the strap. This lesson takes about 4 class periods.

4th Grade Color Wheel Snowflakes

4th grade created snowflakes with an emphasis of the color wheel in the background. On day one we painted the color wheel by mixing colors and on day 2 we discussed radial designs and created a snowflake to glue on top of our color wheel.
