5th grade- Lego Portraits

The snow day and lates starts has the classes all messed up so we did a filler project for some 5th grade classes. 5th graders created self portraits in Lego form. It was great getting to know more about the students and their interests and personalities.  





1st Grade- Parrots

1st grade made parrots using crayons, markers, and watercolors. We did the parrot together step by step. Students then went over hoer pencil lines with sharpies and added a background. Next students colored the parrot and small details. Lastly, students watercolored the background.

Kindergarten- Playground Sculptures

Kindergarteners continued thier knowledge of sculptures and created playground sculptures. We learned about folding paper, creating tabs to make paper stand up, and curling paper.

2nd Grade- Jim Dine Hearts

2nd graders studied artwork by Jim Dine and created non objective artwork using lines, shapes, and colors. We used oil pastels for the hearts and watercolors for the background.





1st Grade- Clay Owls

1st graders made clay owls. We. Constructed these from a circle slab of clay. We added texture to the belly, folded in the wings, folded the head down over a pencil to create a passage for the pipe cleaner, added the eyes using the bottom of a marker, and lastly, pinch the clay for the ears.
After the clay was fired we painted them with watercolors and added the pipe cleaner. 



Kindergarten- Pinch Pots with Lids

I always do pinch pots with kindergarten bit it seems like a short lesson. This year, we created pinch pots with lids and used stamps to create designs on the lids. After the pinch pots were fired we painted them using watercolors.






4th Grade- Radial Weavings

4th grade created radial weavings. This lesson took 4 class periods.
1. Prepare the loom and warp. Weave center piece
2. Weave
3. Weave 
4. Finish weaving and color the border using markers. This allows students to finish easily. 





3rd Grade- Figure Portrait Superheroes

One of the third grade objectives is to do a figure portrait in an action pose. What better art project than a superhero? This lesson took 4 class periods.
1. Study cartoons, discuss cartoon characteristics, draw the head and color.
2. Discuss superhero characteristics. Design bodies and color.
3. Discuss back grounds. Draw with sharpie and water color.
4. Complete anything that was not finished previous classes. Cut out head, body, and glue to background. 







2nd Grade- Space Shuttles

2nd graders created space shuttles to display at our annual Literacy Night.... 3... 2.... 1.... Blast into Reading. We did the space shuttle step b step one class. And the second class, we cut it out and glued it to black paper for the background. The background was made with oil pastels.
