2nd Grade- Snow Cone Snow Men

This was a fun 2 day project that includes a pun.

Day 1- Students painted the snow and cone using tempera paint. We drew the shape of our cone in pencil first. We discussed how the snow balls should overlap a little so it doesn't look like they are balancing circles. Next we drew V shape underneath for the cone. We then painted all the snow balls white. Without washing our brush we used light blue paint to make crescent shapes on the right side of the snow balls. This created a tint. Then we dipped our brush in blue paint and painted the very edge of the light blue paint to create the shadow even more.
Next, we wiped our brush off as well as we could with a paper towel and painted the cone brown. We then dipped our brush in white paint and painted a highlight on the cone on the left side. Our paintings dried until next class.

Day 2- Students started with pencils and then traced over their pencils with oil pastels to add features to their snowmen.
